Packer was repeatedly able to condense massive, complex concepts into only a paragraph or two and yet leave me feeling satisfied. A great book on reformed theology that is exactly what the title implies – concise theology.
The book is pages long but each chapter is only two to four pages in length. Hixson No preview available – In less than 3 pages, he managed to give me a clearer picture of election than anything else I’ve heard or read.

Please, is this book downloadable? I really want to read it. By the very nature of the book, it reads more like an encyclopedia that a proper book, and is therefore not a particularly exciting read, even though the topics concisf be.
The way it is laid out, it is best gone through slowly so there can be plenty of confise and explanation of each chapter.

Loaded with Scripture references and covering each major doctrine with brevity and clarity, it serves as both a good intro to each doctrine as well as a great little quick reference for where to do further study on each area from the Scriptures. Most encouraging was how practical I found this book to be — it was spilling into my everyday life all the time, which has to be theology at it’s best.

Although I do broadly agree with him on most issues described, I tyeology rather concerned that he started out with scripture rather than with God, and I tend to be a little more, ahem, ecumenical. I was gripped by this book! But, if you want to know l “what” of protestant an dreformational theology and not necessarily the “why” You do not have to be a seminary student to read this book.

One of the best basic introductions to theology I have read. Packer has covered every basics in short without missing the key doctrines. Christians disobey God and impoverish themselves by refusing to join with other believers when there is a local congregation that they can belong to.
